Capitol Hill art installation

I created an installation art piece for Substantial in Capitol Hill, Seattle. Overlooking Cal Anderson park, the office gets plenty of foot traffic. The front door on the ground level is flanked by tall windows. I wanted a piece that would engage people walking by and speak to who we are and what we do at Substantial.

The installation mirrors the movement of people passing by, projecting their reflection on the window in the shape of Substantial logo polygons. Technically, the installation uses PoseNet to capture body markers and then redraw and shade colors between those points. It then projects the result in real-time for an interactive mirror that’s on-brand and joyful!

The project is on hold during COVID, but we were able to test out the installation with a temporary screen. Here’s a peek:
